Entering Uganda through Entebbe International Airport : Entebbe International Airport is Uganda’s main airport and is located in Entebbe, Uganda which is approximately 41 kilometers southwest of Kampala. The international airport code is EBB.
The Airport is just on the shores of Lake Victoria; situated at an elevation of 1,155 meters (3,789 feet) above sea level. The airport has two asphalt runways, measuring 3,600 meters (11,811 feet) and 2,400 meters (7,874 feet) in length.
When you are at the airport you will notice it has modern terminal buildings with facilities for international and domestic flights. It has a number of airport lounges, offering comfortable seating, food, and beverages with several duty-free shops, restaurants, and bars.
A number of aircrafts come through Entebbe International Airport that include – Uganda’s own aircraft Uganda Airlines, Kenya Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, KLM, Emirates, Qatar, Turkish Airlines and others. This means the airport offers flights to Africa, USA, Europe, and the Middle East.
Entebbe International airport was built during the colonial era, in the 1920s and it played a very significant role during World War II, serving as a military base. When Uganda got her independence in 1962, Entebbe airport was renovated and expanded. The airport has also gone under renovations and expansion in the recent years including the construction of a new terminal building, installation of new security systems and technology and other things to increase the airport’s capacity to handle more passengers and flights.
When you arrive at the airport that is Entebbe International Airport, as a passenger you will be cleared by Migration, the collect your baggage before you proceed to customs and arrivals where you meet your local transport to your destination.
You need a visa to enter Uganda, kindly check with tour operator about the Visa requirements. Some nationals are allowed to get visas on arrivals, others visa prior, and others actually don’t need the visas. So, check the with the government

As you clear at immigration, you will be required for you Valid passport and visa and other documents as required for if necessary. You may also be required to have a yellow fever card because Uganda has a risk of yellow fever and other tropical diseases like malaria. If you have duty free items worry not passengers are allowed to bring in duty-free items, but certain goods are restricted or prohibited.
You will be required to adhere to the security checks at the airport including going through the metal detectors and X-ray machines on top of the immigration officers check for passports, visas and other documents and customs checks for luggage and other goods or items.
When you are done with all the clearing requirements, you will collect you luggage from the baggage claim located at the arrivals hall. If your baggage is missing or damaged immediately report to the airline’s baggage handling office or to the airport’s lost and found office; please do this immediately.
From the airport you can use one of either transport means private means like personal pick up, hotel pick up and other things. Public means like airport taxis, buses or shuttles, your tour operator will advise you on which means is better.
The airport has several safety measures including checks security screening, CCTV cameras, and security personnel.
When it comes to money the local currency is the Ugandan shilling (UGX) and there are several currency exchange offices at the airport and ATMs machines for you to access money.
For communication you may need to get a local card or internet to communicate via online platforms; there are several telecom shops at the airport that can be of help to you.
