Wonderful Safari Beaches in Zanzibar : Whether you’re coming from Tanzania to Zanzibar for a peaceful beach safari, a romantic East Africa honeymoon, or some post-safari relaxation, the main attraction of this beautiful African island is its beaches. While some of the island’s beaches are ideal for those seeking some great downtime, others are better suited for those seeking their next rush of adrenaline.
Nungwi Beach: Best known for being a Lively Beach.
Nungwi Beach, on Zanzibar’s northwest coast, is one of the island’s stunning and famous beaches, recently making TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards 2018 list of the Top 25 Beaches in the World.
Nungwi is absolutely one of the island’s liveliest districts, with an abundance of nighttime entertainment provided by several beach resorts, hotels, restaurants, and pubs. This beach, though, isn’t only for partygoers.
The coral reefs off the coast of Nungwi are excellent for diving and snorkeling, and you might even spot dolphins, green turtles, and whale sharks during certain times of the year. Nungwi Beach, which faces west, features some of Zanzibar’s spectacular sunsets, and a sunset tour on a traditional dhow sailing boat is a must.
Paje Beach: Best known for Kitesurfing & Diving.
Paje Beach, on the southeast coast of Zanzibar, includes everything an excellent Zanzibar beach should have: huge expanses of white sand, palm trees swinging in the breeze, blue waters, and spectacular sunsets.
Paje Beach is a popular spot for water sports. This area of the island is popular with beginner and professional kite surfers from around the world because to the excellent kitesurfing conditions.
In addition, the blue, warm seas are ideal for scuba diving, with turtles, starfish, trumpet fish, moray eels, and other colourful marine species living in the offshore reefs.
Bwejuu Beach: Best Known for Relaxation.
Bwejuu is obviously one of Zanzibar’s best beaches. This palm-lined white sand beach on the island’s southeast shore is about an hour and a half away from Stone Town.
It’s one of Zanzibar’s best areas, and a favorite choice for individuals looking for complete relaxation, tranquility, and seclusion.
The area offers an array of activities including mangrove forest and dhow boat cruises, and trips to Bwejuu town. Guests can enjoy reef safaris, snorkeling, diving, and visits to Stone Town. There’s also a day trip to Jozani Forest, known for the Red Colobus Monkey.
Kizimkazi Beach: Best Known for Dolphin Safaris.
Dolphin safaris are a popular safari activity in Kizimkazi village. If you’re visiting Kizimkazi, however, keep in mind that boat cruises that offer the chance to swim with dolphins are not recommended. Choose guides who offer responsible dolphin swimming instead.
Michamvi Beach: Best known for a Remote Coral Lagoon.
On the central east coast of the island is an island called Michamvi. Michamvi feels remote and offers vast areas of abandoned beaches to explore, despite the presence of two huge beach resorts in the region.
Michamvi-Pingwe and Michamvi-Kae are the two portions of the island. Michamvi-Pingwe sits on the eastern side, with a vivid coral lagoon and stunning palm-fringed beaches nestled between steep coral-rag cliffs. On the western side, Michamvi-Kae looks westward, towards Chwaka Bay.
Matemwe Beach: Best known for Local Culture & Scuba Diving.
The long, gorgeous Zanzibar beach at Matemwe (Zanzibar’s longest beach) has some of the best sand on the island, and traditional fishing cottages can be found among the palm trees at the back of the beach, providing an intriguing insight into the local culture.
Situated two kilometres offshore, just beyond the main reef, is the well-known island of Mnemba Island, surrounded by beautiful and easily accessible coral reefs. Matemwe Beach offers excellent sailing and kitesurfing, as well as some of the islands greatest diving and snorkeling.
Kendwa Beach: Best Known for Sunsets & Swimming.
This is the best beach in Zanzibar for diving, snorkeling, and swimming. One of the rare beaches in Zanzibar where the tide does not change dramatically is this one.
This Zanzibar beach is also home to vibrant starfish, which may be spotted just offshore (but be sure not to pick up these creatures or disturb them in their natural habitat).
Be at the beach as soon as the sun starts to set since Kendwa Beach is known for its famous sunsets. As the sun sets, the beach comes to life with quiet beach parties and a vibrant nightlife.
